Weight Loss Tips that work

Weight Loss Tips that work

Losing weight can seem overwhelming but it doesn’t have to be. Setting realistic goals to work towards, learning how to eat to fuel your body properly, adopting a mindset of motivation and accountability, planning in movement/exercise that works for you, getting enough sleep.

There is no quick fix but there are life long strategies that are sustainable, effective and easily doable!

There is no one size fits all approach and navigating choices may seem confusing if you are doing it alone which is where a trusted nutrition coach can really come to the rescue. Making little lifestyle tweaks that make the most impact each day, taking simple steps that help you maximize your caloric intake, boost nutrition and build a healthy foundation. I’ve gathered up some of the easiest, most effective tricks I can think of to help you shed those unwanted pounds and slim down for good.

1. Eat Real Food

300 calories of a blue berry muffin is not the same as 300 calories of blueberries. A glass of orange juice is not the same as eating an orange. Try and add foods into your diet that don't have a label that you need to decipher. Think about filling your plate with whole fruits, fresh vegetables, organic proteins, whole wheat and seeded breads. If your food does have a label, male sure the first 3 or 4 ingredients are real foods and not processed additives or preservatives. The less ingredients on a label the better!!

2. Cut back but don't count out carbs

Carbs are fuel not only for your body but for your brain as well. Experiencing brain fog? Maybe you cut out carbs to whittle your waist but now you are waddling your thoughts. Make sure you are feeding your brain with the right fuel. Fresh fruit, whole grains, vegetables are all carbs so don’t bundle them in with the processed stuff that you know you should stay away from.

3. Eat more vegetables

Build each of your meals around veggies. Spinach omelet, salad of arugula and cucumbers, dinner of salmon on a bed of quinoa with roasted sweet potato. If the veggie is the first thought it wont be an after thought.

4. Drink more water and add lemon, lime, cucumber, mint

Water is needed for every process in your body. It helps cleanse toxins, rev metabolism, curb boredom hunger ( which is a real thing by the way). Aim for half of your body weight in ounces for a moderately active lifestyle and increase from there.

5. Eat on a regular schedule

Eating erratically not only affects your metabolism, it also affects your mood and energy

6. Balance your plate

Thinking of your plate like a pie and your macros as slices of that pie. Shoot for non starchy veggies to be 50% of your plate. Healthy, lean and if possible organic protein to be about 20%, starch carbs such as rice, potatoes, bread to be 20% of your plate and healthy fats to be about 10% of your plate.

7. Remember alcohol are calories too

Eating is social, it’s celebratory, it’s family, and alcohol can go hand in hand with all of those things too. Remember that the empty calories that you drink can make the best balanced, best timed meal a bust if you go overboard. I’m not saying don’t drink, have it be part of your meal but dont blame the extra serving of steamed veggies for your pants feeling tight.

8. Know the difference between real hunger, cravings and emotional eating

Mind hunger, emotional eating have nothing to do with your body needing fuel. I know the cravings and the temptations are real, i get them too BUT taking 10 seconds to ask yourself why are you eating that snack? Why are you having a glass of wine? Why your find yourself in the refrigerator at 11:00 at night when you swear you were headed to the bedroom after brushing your teeth?

These are just a few of the tips that I work on with my clients. They do see success, they see the pounds come off, the feel the difference in their relationship with food and the changes they make are sustainable, they become their lifestyle and not just their diet.
